Alternative May 1 1986

The cycle of pictures from May 1 captures the main parade through the situations and positions of policemen who were to oversee the order and steadiness of the ceremonial parade. Between the policemen are regular gaps, whereas every single one of them has his place he cannot move away from. Together they create an alternative May 1. Petra Hanáková descibes this change accordingly: "May 1 is actually a series of small photographic sequences that show policemen, although seemingly bored, are there so that their being bored could continue undisturbed. May 1, the Workers?s Day, is perhaps within the scope of political anniversaries the most photogenic and visually rich. Compulsory May 1 parades had their own trajectories in towns, their own specific ephemeral architecture and their own cooking folklore."
